Flathead Story Concerts celebrates National Library Week (4/7-13) with stories told live at 3 Flathead County Libraries

 =====

We visit libraries to be informed entertained and inspired by stories in the books on the shelves. But during National Library Week 2025 (4/7-13) meaningful true stories will come alive for Flathead County Library visitors as they are shared in person by the Flathead locals who experienced them.

On April 8, 9, and 12 hear true personal stories -- crafted in the style of "The Moth Radio Hour" and PBS-TV's "Stories From the Stage" -- told live in Bigfork Columbia Falls and Kalispell.

The Flathead County Library Association has invited the curators of Flathead Story Concerts -- Glenn and Barbara Schiffman -- to create a "live story marathon" via these three county libraries. All 3 library events are free.

Most of the volunteer Tellers previously participated in story concerts hosted by Barbara and Glenn in 2023 or 2024, at Flathead Valley College &/or Sacred Waters Brewing. A few of them attended Barbara and Glenn's 2024 workshops in Whitefish and will debut new stories at these special library events.

Tellers invited for the 4/9 Columbia Falls Library story concert include:

Heidi Wolf, Joe Weber, Christine Marshall, and Phil Marshall.

According to Glenn, who has shared his own true essays and short fiction live in Kalispell, Spokane, and Los Angeles: "Hearing personal stories told live is different than reading them on your own. In a culture now focused on screens, it's transformative for Tellers to share their stories in person with a gathering of story-fans. As the Tellers speak in word-pictures, Listeners receive the stories at the same time in the same way. This stimulates our brains' mirror-neurons and creates a collective emotional experience that brings people together."

Glenn and Barbara know about the impact of stories and books -- both are writing teachers and published authors. Glenn's specialty is autobiographical novels and personal essays, like his true story about knowing Janis Joplin in late 1960s San Francisco which appears in The Whitefish Review's recent "Music Issue." A former Hollywood script consultant, Barbara writes personal empowerment books and believes each person is a "true story in progress."

Join them and a dozen of their favorite local Tellers to celebrate National Library Week -- on Tuesday 4/8 (6-7pm) at the Bigfork Library; Wednesday 4/9 (6-8pm) at the Columbia Falls Library; and Saturday 4/12 (1-2pm) at the Kalispell Library.

Discover the pleasures and power of hearing true stories told live and experience how our local libraries are bringing far more than books to Flathead Valley.
