Event Details

Do you love hearing stories told live like those in The Moth Radio Hour or on PBS-TV's Stories from the Stage? Or did you attend one of our live 2023 FLATHEAD STORY CONCERTS (see pix) and wonder about telling your own story with us in 2024?

Well you can! We are seeking stories for 2024 Flathead Story Concerts -- being planned for spring and fall in Kalispell MT!

To help "incubate" stories from new tellers we're offering a series of online-only CRAFTING A TELLABLE STORY workshops that you can attend at no cost.

Attend one online workshop or more -- check for dates/times or follow at our FSC website: https://FlatheadStoryConcerts.wootick.com

Let us help you craft tellable stories for sharing at our FSCs &/or other live story events (like those held in Missoula or Spokane).

Next workshop is Tues 3/12 - 7-9pm Mountain Time.

Your stories matter -- and we want to hear them!

Questions?? Call Barbara Schiffman at 747-238-0038 -- or email us at story23fvcc@gmail.com

====

In our online workshops we'll help you brainstorm your story ideas so you can choose one or two to develop and write on your own. We cover the basics of what makes a good live-tellable story and what does not and we'll share one or two examples per workshop.

We'll also teach you our simple but proven structure for creating your own 6-8 minute tellable stories (900-1200 words written). If you wish you can later submit one or more to us for 2024 FSC consideration. (You can also find tips on structuring a spoken word story in books like The Moth's "How to Tell a Story.")

And we'll share our guidelines for submitting your stories for review for 2024 Flathead Story Concerts. Our spoken word events are themed and curated (not open mic) -- stories are selected in advance and Tellers are invited to participate.

See our Themes for 2024 Story Concerts below or visit our FSC website. We prefer true personal experience stories but also consider flash fiction or novel or memoir excerpts that can be told well and fit our guidelines.

You can also submit tellable stories to our 2024 FSC events without attending a workshop -- get all submission details at:

https://FlatheadStoryConcerts.wootick.com

+++++

FYI -- We do not cover HOW TO TELL your story in our online Crafting workshops. But we do audition potential FSC Tellers who submit stories we like before we invite them to participate in an FSC if we haven't heard them tell a story live before.

If you need coaching on how to tell your story live we can provide some resources on this as well including info on local Toastmasters chapters.

+++++

What to bring to the online workshop:

a) Your ideas for tellable stories

b) something for taking notes

-- and we will have some handouts for you.

FYI -- We don't record our workshops at this time - you must attend live

If you don't have a story idea yet or aren't sure if it might fit for telling live no problem. In the first hour we'll cover story structure basics; in the second hour we'll focus on your' story ideas and help some attendees find their story's hook and heart! You'll learn a lot about crafting a tellable story by hearing other attendees' ideas too!

=====

We do REQUIRE RSVPs to attend -- space is limited in each workshop. This way we can give all attendees personal attention and cover the basics in only two hours.

RSVP by getting a ticket here - we will send you the online access details etc. by noon on the day of the workshop.

You can attend one workshop or several -- more dates to come in April May June July and August.
